Description

Quick answer: An adjustable gate eye forms the eye side of a traditional gate hinge arrangement. It passes through a timber gate stile or frame and connects the gate to a suitable hook, while the threaded section allows the gate position and clearance to be adjusted after fitting.

What is an adjustable gate eye used for?

Use this fitting when hanging a timber gate with separate gate hooks rather than a complete tee-hinge or hook-and-band set. It is particularly useful where you need some adjustment to level the gate, alter the gap beside the post or compensate for small changes as the timber settles.

  • Suitable for compatible timber gate hanging systems.
  • Threaded adjustment helps align the gate after installation.
  • Available in different lengths and pin diameters.
  • Choose the size that matches the hook or hanger being used.

What else do I need?

This is one component, not a complete hinge set. Pair it with a compatible hook on oblong plate, gate hanger on plate or another hook with the correct pin diameter. You will normally require an upper and lower hanging point, suitable fixings and a structurally sound gate post.

Alternatives

For a simpler complete package, choose straight bands and hooks on plates. For ordinary lightweight garden gates and shed doors, medium tee hinges may be easier to fit. For a heavier timber gate, consider straight hook and band hinges.

Before ordering: Check the eye diameter, overall length, gate thickness, required adjustment range and the pin diameter of the matching hook. Do not assume separately purchased hinge parts will fit together solely because they are described as gate hardware.
