Description
The DuraPost GateMate adjustable steel gate frame kit creates a rigid, made-to-measure frame for timber garden gates from 700–1200mm wide. The telescopic steel frame adjusts in width and height, then your chosen timber is fixed to it to create the finished gate.
GateMate is the gate-building range within the wider DuraPost fencing family, making this a natural option where a timber gate is being installed alongside DuraPost posts or fencing.
What is the DuraPost GateMate gate frame?
It is an adjustable structural steel frame that sits behind the timber facing of the gate. Instead of building the main frame entirely from timber, the GateMate steel sections provide the rigid skeleton while the timber creates the visible finish.
What size gate can the GateMate frame make?
The frame adjusts from 700mm to 1200mm wide and from 1250mm to 1950mm high. The vertical and horizontal steel sections telescope, allowing one kit to cover a wide range of pedestrian and garden gate sizes.
Why use an adjustable steel gate frame?
The steel frame gives a repeatable square structure for a bespoke timber gate while still allowing you to choose the cladding and finished appearance. It is useful for side gates, garden gates and gates built to suit an existing opening.
Steel construction and finish
The outer telescopic sections are manufactured from 35mm × 35mm square hollow steel section, with 30mm × 30mm inner telescopic sections. The corner and centre T-joints are fully welded before finishing.
The steel receives a Dacromet® zinc coating followed by a Black RAL 9005 powder-coated finish. Birkdale states the finished frame has been in-house salt-spray tested to 500 hours.

What timber do I need?
The kit creates the steel gate frame; timber is then added to create the finished gate. The quantity and layout depend on the finished dimensions and the cladding style you choose.
